Sodium halide lighting for the garden
There are two varieties of sodium lamp which are used for different reasons. The lamp uses sodium to produce light and comes in low pressure or high pressure variety. These sodium lights cause less pollution than some similar working types of lights and so are popular within places that have large lighting needs for example cities which have large astronomical observation points often have these types of lights inside.
If you go for a low pressure sodium lights then this means you are choosing one which has a tiny amount of neon and argon gas and solid sodium. This is stored in the borosilicate glass gas discharge tube. The light usually takes a few minutes to warm up so until it reaches it full bright yellow state you will notice a faint red or pink glow whilst it warms up.
For those technology minded the light produces a more or less monochromatic light about around 589.3nm wavelength.
